THE NEITH NETWORK LIBRARY ELECTRONICALLY SUBSISTS I+ N A TREASURY OF MORE THAN THREE THOUSAND BOOKS, THE TITLES OF WHICH ARE ALL HERE SO LISTED THAT BOTH THEIR NUMERICAL ORDERING AND THEIR INITIAL DISTRIBUTION INTO A SERIES OF THEOLOGICALLY AND METAHERMENEUTICALLY SIGNIFICANT AND DELIBERATELY NON-SPECIFIC, INTERDISCIPLINARY AND TRANSDISCIPLINARY CATEGORIES, REFLECTS THIS WEBMASTER'S CONTINUING AND JOYFUL ADHERENCE TO JOHN-PAUL II'S DYNAMIC APPRECIATION THAT HUMAN LIVING ONLY ACHIEVES AUTHENTICITY TO THE EXTENT THAT IT GENUINELY EXPRESSES THE TRUE HEART & MIND OF THE ACTING PERSON.

"That invitation I have extended to each of you, not because you are slaves of whom I may freely dispose just as I chose, but because you are all my friends."

INTRODUCING inciteYoga              C O N T E N T S

The Lord of The Rings, sexuality, terrorism & war. Afghanistan, China, Iraq, Ireland, Isræl, Palestine & The Gold of Exodus. Mediating The myth of 11 September 2001, etc..

The four planes involved were each capable of transporting 1,000 passengers, but only 226 persons boarded them that day.
50,000 visitors might have been in the two tower-blocks, but no more than 20,000 actually were. The massive damage inflicted by both buildings' implosion was far less than that their explosion might have caused.

This is the night, this is the night He rose triumphant from the grave, opened what was sealed, forgave, and blessed, and healed those He suffered death to save. O happy fault! O necessary sin! A New Day rushes I+N!
Miriam Therese's Easter-Vigil-liturgical-hymn-Exsultet-inspired words are adapted here from those of no. 627 in the Complete Celebration Hymnal with New Songs of Celebration (ISBN 0 85597 427 3).

Avant Propos

  • "He who begins by loving Christianity better than truth, will proceed by loving his own sect or church better than Christianity, and end in loving himself better than all." S.T. COLERIDGE
  • "He who does reverence to his own sect, while disparaging the sects of others with intent to enhance the glory of his own sect, by such conduct inflicts the severest injury on his own sect." ASOKA.

  • "Seeing then that the body of Christ is mystically one, it follows that the fellowship of his members must also by mystical, and not confined to place and time, inasmuch as it is composed of individuals of widely separated countries, and of all ages from the foundation of the world." MILTON
  • "Moses saw a shepherd on the way, crying, 'O Lord Who choosest as Thou wilt, Where art Thou, that I may serve Thee and sew Thy shoon and comb Thy hair? That I may wash Thy clothes and kill Thy lice and bring milk to Thee, O worshipful One; That I may kiss thy little hand and rub Thy little feet and sweep Thy little room at bed-time.'
On hearing these foolish words, Moses said, 'Man, to whom are you speaking? What babble! What blasphemy and raving! Stuff some cotton into your mouth! Truly the friendship of a fool is enmity: the High G-d is not in want of suchlike service.'
The shepherd rent his garments, heaved a sigh, and took his way to the wilderness.
Then came to Moses a Revelation: 'Thou has parted My servant from Me. Wert thou sent as a prophet to unite, or wert thou sent to sever? I have bestowed on every one a particular mode of worship, I have given every one a peculiar form of expression. The idiom of Hindustan is excellent for Hindus [each individual among whom will in turn, as noted, have her or his "particular mode" of Hinduism]; the idiom of Sind is excellent for the people of Sind. I look not at tongue and speech, I look at the spirit and the inward feeling. I look into the heart [of each unique one] to see whether it be lowly, though the words uttered be not lowly. Enough of phrases and conceits and metaphors! I want burning, burning: become familiar with that burning! Light a fire of love in thy soul, burn all thought and expression away! O Moses, they that know the conventions are of one sort, they whose souls burn are of another'…" RUMI
  • "Christ does not save all those who say to Him: 'Lord, Lord'. But he saves all those who out of a pure heart give a piece of bread to a starving man, without thinking about Him the least little bit. And these, when He thanks them, reply: 'Lord, when did we feed thee?'…
An atheist and an 'infidel', capable of pure compassion, are as close to G-d as is a Christian, and consequently know Him equally well, although their knowledge is expressed in other words, or remains unspoken. For 'G-d is Love'." SIMONE WEIL

That Christian community goes so far towards satisfying its members spiritual, ego- & group-psychological and pro-actively socially integated needs and aspirations, that both the pastor and his brothers and sisters in Christ appear still to fall somewhat short of even a minimum of respect for differing views and convictions.
Bishop Cardoso, for instance, mistakenly alleges that Roman Catholics believe that, in the Mass, "Christ is sacrificed again". No! His One Sacrifice is simply re-membered.
Given good-will on each side, such misapprehensions and temporary excesses may, I feel, with G-d's Help, easily be transcended.

Contemporary Considerations

  • Current newspapers continue to mentioned some supposed "Iraqi Conflict"… Yet their reports rather indicate a "George Bush Conflict".
  • The present President of the United States of North America has stated: "I am sick and tired"… Such an one urgently needs sleep and healing; meanwhile, let him step aside.
  • Allah is Merciful. Neither does our human family begrudge the man his rest… Perhaps several other so called world leaders are nowadays suffering almost continually from jet-lag. If so, it is not good.
  • No wonder only 3.2% of adult Italians reportedly show any concern for "politics".

Webmaster & Preliminary LibrArian's Personal Mandala very briefly explained.

Contents Page      Annunciation of our Present Mission      The Creativity House Archives

Creativity House is neither a bookshop nor a circulating-library. The Preliminary LibrArian does not compete, and neither does our present Webmaster.

Many contemporary writers provide a bibliography or reading-list to supplement the main body of their work. Colin James Hamer has preferred instead only a minimum of words of his own to supplement his first task as a Writer, which, by Divine Appointment, has been that of drawing up, albeit no more than in a preliminary and provisional fashion, a sample short-list of more than three thousand individually and specifically recommended titles for you to read, if you will.

Because Love is the only true question, and because all genuine education in Love is Self-education and also because every individual Person is absolutely unique, Colin takes it for granted that no more than a very few of his readers are likely to feel inclined entirely to approve of this unusual and, some may say, outrageously arbitrary way of proceeding. So be it.

Publication details here given don't always refer either to the first or the most recent edition of any work mentioned, and are based entirely on Colin's own research.
When practicable, and where it was considered especially helpful, brief explanatory or critical comments have occasionally been added - but not, one hopes, so often as either to lessen the new reader's delight in personal discovery, inhibit individual meditation on the texts mentioned, or in such a way as to discourage continuing personal research into the fuller context and subtext.

In ordering the listings, all items originally included are identified by a number between 0 and 3116, with higher numbers reserved for later additions. Other things being equal (and they very seldom are), the smaller the number, the closer to the core-process at the very heart of things is, in Colin's experience as a reader, the objective content of the book or other publication identified by it.
Numerically ordered comparisons are, of course, meaningless out of their own necessarily limited and, in principle, quite unambiguous and definite context. It is Colin's assessment that items {(i-vi) + (0-22)}, when taken together as a set (a whole which is substantially more than the mere sum of its parts), serves a function which, when taken together as the set which is his particular ordered sequence of items 30-3116 arranged in 10 conceptually distinct but, more often than not, confusingly overlapping and osmotically interpenetrating sub-sets, cannot effectively substitute for.
Such a judgment in no way contradicts his continuing conviction that, if one restricts oneself to the reading throughout the balance of one's life on Earth to one book only, Peter Plichta's God's Secret Formula is the best choice.
If, instead, one restricts oneself to a choice of a set of 4 books, then Colin recommends the repeated reading and meditation-mediation of the reciprocally correcting, significantly complementary and mutually enhancing contents of Bernard Lonergan's Insight - A Study of Human Understanding, the anonymously and posthumously published Meditations on the Tarot - A Journey into Christian Hermeticism, Helen Luke's Kaleidoscope - "The Way of Woman" and other essays and Sallie Nichols' Jung and Tarot - An Archetypal Journey.
Questions arise. Solvitur ambulando. What I have written, I have written
Corrections to and suggestions for additions or improvements are always welcome, and will be carefully considered for eventual inclusion in any future edition.

Colin remains available as a teacher of either Reading or Writing or both, at all levels from pre-elementary to post-post-graduate but, unlike his anonymous and immediate predecessor in Office, whom some have named as Valentin Tomberg, he makes no promise at all that he will continue to exercise either of those functions after his own physical death.

Fidei coticula crux. Sali anche tu...
Saint Benedict's Medal is linked intrinsically to Christ's Cross. I+N the Patriarch's left hand reposes the open text of a Bible-inspired Rule. During their terrestrial pilgrimage, seeking to emulate Scholastica and her brother's flight into the Sun, their disciples fly around this small plan-I.T., as does the raven, albeit interiorly more concerned to gather what crumbs of heavenly Wisdom they have garnered from the Founders' superhomoeostatically refined & balanced and holistically integrated Doctrina Virtutumque, the fruit of Scholastica's contemplative flight and Benedict's spiritual high-altitude mountaineering - drawn by the Cross. Candle-like on that humbly invisible summit, his radiant example is leadership I+N Truth; the deifying Light of Faith having illumined the Ascent. The poisoned and shattered cup of worldly excess witnesses Benedict's radically transforming power as a channel of G-d's Word - Agere est pati quoddam (Aquinas).
The Latin inscription beneath the Patriarch's feet reads: EX.S.M.CASINO. mdccclxxx ([medal cast from a die] from the Holy Hill of Cassino). The surrounding inscription reads: .EIVS.IN.OBITV.ÑRO.PRÆ. .SENTIA.MVNIAMVR. (By our dying within his death, may we be fortified by his presence.)
The reverse side of the medal carries three sets of letters. The first : C.S.P.B., meaning: Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti, translates: Holy Father Benedict's Cross.
The second: C.S.S.M.L., which means: Crux Sacra sit mihi lux, translates: May Holy Cross be my source of illumination.
The third: N.D.S.M.D. stands for: Non draco sit mihi dux, and translates: Let not that dragon be my Führer.
The circular inscription, V.R.S.N.S.M.V.S.M.Q.L.L.V.B. means: Vade retro Satana; numquam suade mihi vana. Sunt mala quæ libas; ipse venena bibas. It may be translated as: Retreat Satan; never try to win me over with glamour and superficiality. Whatever you have to offer, any poison you ever drink is all your own concoction. .
This medal is customarily blessed, by whomsoever possesses the requisite faculty, as follows:

What is most important may not coincide with that which appears most urgent.
Chris Jackson appeared earlier this evening on television, where he characterized the present state of play in political posturing and diplomatic manœvres re. the Turkish situation as "a highly theological debate".

Just as Good Sex is never safe sex, so true philosophy is never safe philosophy. G-d's Theology IS light-years' removed in "thought", as well as in IT's aims and objectives, from every sort of aridly academic or evasively ecumenico-political "trivial pursuit" that Chris Jackson has today chosen, indirectly, to castigate - presumably because he has as yet failed to appreciate that ordinary men and women don't need to study "theology" at all, in order to Know that Pope John-Paul & Archbishop Rowan Williams are wiser than he.

  • SALLY GRIFFYN, Sacred Journeys - Stone Circles & Pagan Paths (London: Kyle Cathie Ltd, 2000), p. 153:'Theology' is the vital epicentre I+N each person's heart of hearts:
"In this valley (Newgrange, Boyne Valley, Eire) is the largest concentration of megalithic art in the British Isles. Newgrange and the nearby sites of Knowth and Dowth are the most sophisticated examples of chambered passage tombs in Europe. At Newgrange the Earth Goddess is represented by a large mound into which a shaft of Midwinter sunlight penetrates the heart of the womb. The Midwinter solar alignment means that for five days around the time of the Solstice the sun casts light through a small roof-box that illuminates the interior passage and then creeps along until it reaches the central chamber inside the tomb. The three interior chambers are placed much in the way a Neolithic Goddess would have lain in wait for her lover. The chamber at the centre is the heart of the belly. The furthest chamber forms the head into which the light is received. To each side of the central chamber are two adjacent chambers, both of which housed the cremated remains of dead ancestors. The ancient rites are enacted in the womb-tomb were observed as the golden ray of light shone gradually through the birth passage to illuminate the mystery at the centre. Inside each chamber is a basin stone smoothed by time and by the rolling of stones on its surface. Quartz has been found resting in the basin stone, where it may have been placed waiting for the sun to illuminate it…"

To the pure, all things are pure. Without being heaven, or even paradise, this shared World of ours is a perfect, whirled in spaces and times, bottomless and top-like, wobbling Ark of refuge for lunatics, such as we all, for the moment, appear to be!

"I am" IS 'The Way', and 'The Truth', and 'The Life'."
Every cause produces an effect. The smaller the cause, the bigger the effect. No cause every produces an identical effect twice.
Just as every point on the surface of a perfect sphere stands at the very centre of that spherical surface, so each one of us, to the degree that he or she is still growing, is, I+N Truth, 'Self-identical'…

G-d's Message to George Bush, junior, today, is plain and simple. To quote one of his recent predecessors: "Chill out".
Thank the Lord that it's only snow that is falling in Washington just now.
Recently, when I visited Fuerteventura (Spanish Canary Isles) for the first time in my life, very much hoping to see for myself some stones, inscribed with pre-cuneiform writings from "before the Flood" of the sort that I have seen in Malta's National Museum of Archæology, and that Kurt Schildmann has documented as being also in evidence in Afghanistan, Belgium, France, India, Pakistan, Peru, Portugal, U.S.A., and, very probably, several other present-day countries as well, as much rain fell in two days as customarily falls in ten years.

"The Lord of Beginning created the gods, the heavens and the earth." (Gn 1:1)

    G-d is not mocked!

10 February 2003 was the first day of Hajj. People drawn from 171 nations had gathered together in Mecca to be with G-d, as I call the Trinity of Holy Spirit, Unfathered Father & Only-Begotten Son in perichoresis IN JesusI+NMary, the Lady of All Nations, Advocate, Co-Redemptrix and, by whatever name she be invoked, Pluriversal Mediatrix of All Graces..
10 February 1964 was the first day on which I and thirty-two other Salesian Priests of Saint John Bosco, drawn from 14 of the 41 nations represented in the theological seminary where I then lived, celebrated Holy Mass in or near Turin (Italy), all of us having been sacramentally ordained in the Basilica of Mary, Help of Christians, on the previous day.
10 February each year is nowadays the Feast of Saint Scholastica, the sister of Saint Benedict, the Father of Western Monasticism & Patron Saint of Europe.
On the islands of Comino, Gozo & Malta, 10 February is a National Holiday & the Feast of the Martyred Saint & Apostle to the Nations, Paul of Tarsus. Very likely, Paul was shipwrecked on Malta, in what is today called St. Paul's Bay, in late October or early November, A.D. 59. Probably, too, 10 February coincides with the date of his subsequent departure for Rome, by ship from Gozo.

Whether or not Malta is the best location for face-to-face talks between Saddam Hussein and George Bush is not something about which I have been asked to express an opinion.
The local inhabitants of Fuerteventura are also peacable and most hospitable. Many species of flora growing on this ancient, volcanic upthrust, just off the western coast of the Moroccan Sahara, flourish nowhere else on this particular planet, where, in fact, none of us has pitched his tent "for ever".

A great deal of thoughtful care has already entered into this presentation.
All of it is best read, re-read, studied, and then re-read again.

All creation is the vesture of G-d, a seamless robe. Catherine Zeta-Jones & Michæl Kirk Douglas's legal conflict with Hello magazine, and the experience, as asylum-seekers, of some "illegal immigrants", that their appeals to the "churches" for help are met with "closed doors", are all of a piece with N.A.T.O.'s and U.S.A.'s so called "crisis of credibility".
Rupert Murdoch appears to have a great deal to answer for.
Saint Boniface, a significant Benedictine Monk if ever there was one, was born in Credition and educated here in Exeter, where I am word-processing this page.
I invoke both his prayer and his blessing on all who read it.

It is reported that officials of the U.K. Foreign Office are seeking for greater transparency in the Iranian, or is it in the Turkish government's treatment of atomic-energy related and other particularly thorny issues.
This Webmaster's policy has already been made perfectly clear and, indeed, as plain (and plane) as a pike-staff. We seek that Peace of G-d "which surpasseth all 'understanding'."
Melanie Small, our Secretary for War, is visiting the Turkish portion of Cyprus privately; she and I have, like Paul of Tarsus, already visited Paphos.
Next week (on 18 February 2003) I hope to fly directly, for the first time, from Homer's ancient city of Exeter- Amydon - and also to see "Chicago" for myself beforehand.
Of New York State, I know no more than the non-Canadian half of the Niagara Falls, but if either "Witchblade" or the Preface to Rick Moody's The Black Veil accurately adumbrates the only soil in which any socially acceptable and real McCoy "American" bush must first learn to increase and prosper, not much has changed since my mother and I stood by J. F. Kennedy's open-top car, as Jacqueline and he exited Vatican City, fresh from their private audience of "himself" or, as I believe the Americans called him, "Johnny Walker".

Although I was brought up from birth I+N the One, True Faith of the Holy, Catholic, Roman & Apostolic Church, which I am still proud to profess, those who exercise authority within its Institutions and/or administer any portion of its well nigh incalculable supply of hard cash, real estate and other material resources, currently contribute not one farthing to my individual support.
G-d is my paymaster. As Webmaster, I am, I suppose, a Prophet for our times and, I know, a prophet without 'profits'.
You can't take it with you, they say - though the Pharaohs appeared not to have agreed. Whatever; I spare no expense. I have no "hidden agenda".
Natural water is, I suggest, normally, far and away the best solution, but nowadays there are, unfortunately many places where even water is in short supply.
However, even urine is not to be sniffed at... (cf. Martha M. Christy, "Urine Therapy - A Natural Alternative" in Nexus Special Supplement #2, Dec.'97-Jan.'98, pp.41-59.)

Change, especially unexpected change, is often highly beneficial. Honesty is the best policy. Truthfulnesss and complete transparency are eminently practical ideals.
Our staff I+N Creativity House are eager to promote all such excellent qualities.
There haven't as yet been all that many reports of invisible men or women being seen during their perambulations along our busy High Street, but I do know several of their transparents and, indeed, thanks to Jill Purce's near Totnes residential course in Mongolian and Tibetan overtone chanting, several of our common ancestors, too.
In my view, the dance of the Seven Veils is best danced wearing no more than a birthday suit to kick off with, and then, progressively, as the rhythm accentuates and energy rises, divesting oneself, chakra by chakra of that occasionally even slightly tedious encumbrance of relatively low-frequency sheathing we customarily call the physical 'body', until eventually, like Alice in Wonderland's Cheshire Cat, our only remaining, sensibly discernible, and radiantly resonant presence IS a Heavenly Smile of Perfect Agreement - truly, a Beatific Vision "in the [to most of us invisible] Flesh".
Janicêk's "Mass of the Universe", Teilhard de Chardin's Eucharistic-Cosmic vision, Cajetan's elevatio totius universi disposita, the ideal goal proposed to us by Nuptial Theology - Hoc est enim corpus meum.
"He's got the whole world in his hands."

"Res, non verba." (Seneca, quoted, in Burwash, by Don Giacomo Simonetti, S.D.B., in 1953.)
Or, as Monsignor Canon Harry Doyle, the parish-priest G-d placed in charge of Exeter's city-centre church of the Sacred Heart shortly before I translocated thither from West Norwood's Royal Circus, very helpfully and succinctly expressed it much more recently: "Wisdom is knowing what's the next thing to do."
Only very rarely are we able to enter into personal correspondence.
Because much that may be written, can never be said, telephoned inquiries to +44 (01392) 411 723 are seldom a bright idea. I sometimes lack patience, don't suffer fools gladly, am not in any urgent need of double-glazing and, while entirely happy to enter into conversation with visiting Yahweh's witnesses any time they so wish, steadfastly refuse to be made into a sound-board for sales-persons reeling it all off enthusiastically but mindlessly by rôte, and I seldom consent to being interviewed by anyone telling me that, in the interests of client confidentiality, the interviewee's personal identity is of no interest whatsoever at all to the organization she or he represents.

In a significant presentation to the First International Dialogue on the Transition to Global Society (Switzerland: Landegg Academy, September 1990) Robert Artigiani, professor of the History of Science at the United States Naval Academy and a founding member of the Washington Evolutionary Systems Society, noted:

The last one hundred years have witnessed organized violence, suffering, and injustice on a previously unequaled scale… but amidst the chaos and misery, an evolutionary analysis finds hope… Cultural change is associated with entropy bursts that may lead to re-stabilizations at higher levels of complexity.
Higher levels of complexity in human systems, have consequences which appear to encourage increasing individuation, autonomy and community. Thus, an evolutionary analysis suggests that we are in a position to build a new kind of society that will display progress measured in terms of classical human values. Thus our choices and actions can enoble the sacrifices made by earlier generations…

Such "hopeful realism" offers a key of sorts to what may, in the biblical sense, be a "peaceful" solution to many problems.
Meanwhile, be of Good Heart! G-d Reigns (and how it rains).
Much that has been revealed is today reveiled anew.

    Acknowledgments and Copyright Notice.

Discarding formalities, Colin very sincerely thanks Shirley Williams for her letter of 5 February 2003, and for the copies he has now read, both of Menzies Campbell's "Let the weapons inspectors take as long as they need" (London: The Independent, 28 January 2003), and of two recent, interesting, but, to him, disappointingly uninformative House of Lords Official Reports (Parliamentary Debates - "Hansard", Vol. 643, No. 31, Tuesday, 21 January 2002, and Vol. 644, No. 38, Monday, 3 February 2003).
In common with several journalist and radio- or television-interviewers, members of both of the United Kingdom's Houses of Parliament, like politicians the world over, appear, when heard on the radio, seen live on television, or reported in the press, to be all too frequently little more than mindless cretins who haven't a clue as to where it's at.
On the other hand, when, during his seven years' experience as a Head of Department in an Inner London Education Authority Institute of Adult Education, local trade-union Secretary and, during the last two of those seven years, a founding member and Secretary General of A.H.E.A.D. (Association of Heads of Department in Adult Education - I.L.E.A., Wanda Fry invited him to attend a number of meetings of the Westminster Branch of the United Nations' Association, he was favourably impressed by the friendly spirit of mutually helpful openness and cooperation that participants in such meetings, several of which were held in Committee-Rooms in one or other part of the Palace of Westminster, typically exhibited.

Do we still need the sort of media-circus we have?
In Italian, as Ben Bradshaw no doubt knows as well as I do, "parlamento" originally designated the meetings of the popolo (people) and the consiglio (council) that the local bishop periodically found it useful to convoke, in order to inform both of these groups of notably influential citizens and land-owners about matters that he himself had already decided.
"Democracy" means different things or different no-things to different people, but our present task, during this third millennium of the present Christian era, is, by hook or by crook, to learn how to behave ourselves as authentic human persons and self-responsible adults.
So far, like Paul the Apostle, Martin Heidegger, Shakespeare's Prospero and, of course, many others, I haven't progressed much beyond the stage of what Heidegger, in a pregnant phrase, termed authentic shipwreck (echte Naufrage).
Many of us nowadays often feel out of our depth. In a pluralist society, politicians in the so called "free" world have for the most part opted out of doing or saying anything at all definite or meaningful, if the diagnoses reported by Rowan Williams are correct.
It's quite simply not good enough. Everyone knows that. Perhaps that's why no more than 3.2% of adult Italians are thought to be interested in politics.
Politicians in the Anglo-Saxon nations would appear still to be more deeply entrenched in "The Rich Man's world", about which Jesus of Nazareth had some disturbing things to say, and in which everything always seems to come down to "Money, money, money".
But if politics is the art of what is empirically, and not just theoretically possible, isn't it time we pulled out our fingers, pulled up our socks, and tried "to do something beautiful for G-d"?
