I invoke the path and experience of completeness so that the unconscious part of my immortal mind is open to the present moment and I am happy by the breaking of all material bonds and horizons.

Alice A. Bailey, A Treatise On White Magic or The Way Of The Disciple (Lucis Press, 1934):

"Endeavour, therefore, to remain quiescent as life unrolls, work, toil, strive, aspire, and hold the inner calm. Withdraw steadily into interior work and so cultivate a responsiveness with the higher planes. A perfect steadiness of inner poise is what the Masters need in those whom They seek to use. Is is an inner poise that holds to the vision yet does its outer work on the physical plane with a concentrated physical brain attention which is in no way deviated by the inner receptiveness. It involves a dual activity."

Terence O'Brien, Living in Personal Relationship with God (London, 1993):

"No blame, no condemnation, no criticism, no judgment, no resentment - just love. A state of love growing, developing, extending itself from the deepest level of the person which is me. I let my love go to the whole human race, without distinction of race, creed or colour. I let my love go wherever it is needed most, without knowing where or to whom. Always a love which awakens growth. One with myself, one with each member of the human race, in love, in that love G-d is one with me I+N Christ in the depths of my being."

Henry David Thoreau, Walden; or, Life In The Woods (1854):

"I learned this,at least, by my experiment: that as one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavours to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. He will put some things behind, will pass an invisible boundary; new, universal, and more liberal laws will begin to establish themselves around and within him; or the old laws be expanded, and interpreted in his favour in a more liberal sense, and he will live with the license of a higher order of beings."

The Human Aura

The Eagle's emanations are more than filaments of light. Each one of them is a source of boundless energy. Think of them this way: since some of the emanations outside the cocoon are the same as the emanations inside, their energies are like a continuous pressure, but the cocoon isolates the emanations that are inside its web and thereby directs the pressure.

Don Juan in dialogue with Carlos Castaneda

The human aura is a glowing radiant energy field of plasma or pulsating vibrations of various subtle forces and bioelectromagnetic energies that ebb and flow within the human body. Dr Valerie Hunt of the Bioenergy Fields Laboratory, P.O. Box 4234, Malibu, California 90265, U.S.A., has produced an excellent series of tapes and also a video-film about colours and the aura.

North American native healers, whether women Shamankas or male Shamans, see a person as a glowing energy field, rather like a luminous egg. Extending outwards into the surrounding external reality from an area on the luminous egg situated at what, in terms of the physical body, is the level of the navel, the Shaman sees a bunch of fibres connecting this egg to the world at large.

Materialist technology is dead, and the time is clearly ripe for the details of this essential knowledge, based on Natural Wisdom as ancient as the human spirit itself, to be as freely and widely communicated as possible.

My own methods of working with these subtle forces and, incidentally, of sometimes healing persons suffering from dis-ease and at other times facilitating natural peak-experiences, combine various Tantric Yoga disciplines with both Ayurvedic and American Indian traditional ways of using quartz crystals and other gem-stones, as taught, for instance, by Dr A. K. Bhattacharya and by Harley SwiftDeer Reagan, Ph.D., a Shaman I met in St. James's Church in Piccadilly, and who had himself earlier been an apprentice of the Don Gennaro who features so largely in Carlos Castaneda's books.

The various publications by such eminent authors as Joan Halifax and Michael J. Harner are also excellent sources of relevant information, and I especially recommend Joan's Shamanic Voices - a survey of visionary narratives (1979) and Doctor Harner's Hallucinogens and Shamanism (Oxford University Press, 1973), and I remain for ever indebted to both these authors for the very considerable help their clear and well balanced writings have made available to us all.

This now widely know American Indian vision of the human aura underpinning all that Castaneda has written, as well as having obvious parallels in the Qabala and the symbolism of the New Testament Book of Revelation, finds many echoes in Celtic lore, and is practically identical with visions contained in Chinese as well as in the Tibetan and Indian traditional systems. In each of these one finds the same emphasis on the importance of the aura and the chakras, and the same distinction between left- and right-sided awareness.

Chakra is simply the Sanskrit for "wheel", but the term may also be employed in a technical sense in discussions of what Doctor Joan D'Arcy Cooper at one stage of her life in Culbone certainly believed was a more authentic account of the aura than that deriving from Patanjali's approach to yoga, viz. the Ancient Sumerian teaching elsewhere presented in her own words and in detail on this website, so that I need not dwell on that particular matter at any great length here.
