"Not at a crisis of nervousness do we stand now, not at a time for the vacillation of flabby souls; but at a great turning point in the history of scientific thought, at a crisis such as occurs but once in a thousand years, such as has not been witnessed for many generations. Standing at this point, with the vista of future achievements before us, we should be happy that it is our lot to live at this time and to participate in the creation of tomorrow."

W.I. Vernadsky, author of Essays in Geochemistry; Biosphere and Noosphere (1924, 1926 & 1938)

"A transformed individual is one who can tell the truth; and a transformed environment is one where the truth can be told."

W. W. Bartley, Werner Erhard (New York, 1978)

Copies of emeritus Professor Robert Leaper, CBE's Change and Continuity - The Story of Sacred Heart Parish, Exeter (Diocesan Trading Limited, 2005: ISBN 0-9551017-0-0) are now in stock at the church's repository in South Street; on 15 September 1844 Pope Gregory XVI conferred a DD degree on Fr. George Oliver, who was 10 years old in 1791 and had been parish-priest at the Sacred Heart since October 1807 - he was buried in the Catholic Chapel, Exeter, his obituary was published in the Western Times (30 March 1861), and the centenary of his death was commemorated on 5 April 1961. I appreciate that Blessed Jean-Marie Galot (1747-1794) was both a priest and a freemason, but, Leo-n-ardo's findings notwithstanding, Exeter's Dr. George Oliver is not to be confused with the renowned Freemason and theological scholar Dr. George Oliver (5 November 1782 - 3 March 1867) about whom several books have been written, most notably the one by Richard Sandbach.
